FlexRide chassis

Class leading electronic chassis control belongs naturally to the Insignia. The Drive Mode Control reacts to changing conditions in real time. In extreme conditions the FlexRide system automatically sets the continuous damping control (CDC) to work with the 4-channel ABS and electronic brake force distribution, Traction Control and ESP Plus to provide the safest active safety available.

 

In more normal conditions there is a choice of Sport, Tour or Normal settings to match the driving character to your moods. It is also possible to input your own preferences into the settings of the Sport mode, for ultimate custom handling.

 

This outstanding intelligence is perfectly complemented by the chassis engineering. The optional HiPerStrut front suspension virtually eliminates torque steer during acceleration and also isolates unwanted feedback from bumps and rough surfaces. The multilink rear suspension is, in turn, perfectly suited to the FlexRide. The whole is balanced to perfection for your safety, comfort and driving enjoyment.

Adaptive 4x4

The excellent on-road behavior of the new Opel Insignia is further enhanced by on-demand all-wheel drive. The torque is automatically distributed not only between front and rear axles, but also between left and right rear wheels, providing maximum traction, stability, and outstanding driving dynamics. The optional Super-Sport Chassis (for Sport and Cosmo) adds Opel’s HiPerStrut front axle, which isolates the steering from the negative effects of high engine torque. It also includes high-performance Brembo brakes, and a handling-biased, lowered chassis.

 

Adaptive 4x4 is fully integrated with all the other dynamic control systems of the Opel Insignia. It therefore responds also more sportily when the “Sport” mode is activated.

 

The Insignia’s advanced 4x4 system is not only available for the high performance petrol engines 2.0 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection and 2.8 Turbo but also for the highly efficient 2.0 CDTI with 120 kW (163 hp) and the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI with 143 kW (195 hp).

Petrol engines

Looking for something really special? Clean, everyday, power that protects your pocket? Then check out the 1.6 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection. You get 125 kW (170 hp) packed into the first of a new generation of super-clean and efficient petrol units. If that isn’t enough, big brother 2.0 Turbo ECOTEC® Direct Injection is waiting in the wings with 186 kW (250 hp) and 400 Nm torque. Both are rational answers to providing sufficient power while cutting consumption and emissions, as are the 1.8 liter and especially the 1.4 liter Turbo with 103 kW (140 hp), which is already certified for Euro 6. This engine is also available ex-factory for combined operation with low-cost Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG). The complete range has something for everyone, everywhere. Something good.


Diesel engines

If you drive diesel, the 2.0 CDTI, ultra clean and quiet power that still delivers an invigorating 103 kW (140 hp) sets the scene for a blend of economy and performance. If you want more power there is also the 2.0 CDTI 120 kW (163 hp) or the outstanding 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI with 143 kW (195 hp). This tops a range that begins with just 81 kW (110 hp) or 88 kW (120 hp) and 96 kW (130 hp). Wherever you live, or whatever you expect, one will be perfect for you.

ecoFLEX

For some drivers the environment comes before everything else. If you share this commitment Opel Insignia now offers a real choice. The 2.0 CDTI engines with Start/Stop System of the Opel Insignia ecoFLEX deliver 103 kW (140 hp) respectively 88 kW (120 hp) with a combined consumption of only 3.7 liters and cuts CO2 emissions to just 98 g/km.

 

By optimizing engine calibration with combustion pressure sensing, adapting the final drive ratio, lowering chassis, fitting low rolling resistance tires, automatic grille shutter and Start/Stop System the new Opel Insignia ecoFLEX protects the environment without compromising on driving performance.


Start/Stop System and ecoFLEX Technology Pack

Almost all engines are available with an ecoFLEX Technology Pack, and with Start/Stop System in combination with manual transmission.

 

The Start/Stop System further optimizes fuel savings, especially in city traffic. The engine stops when the car comes to a standstill with transmission in neutral and starts instantly as soon as the clutch pedal is being activated again. The system can be activated/deactivated via a button on the instrument panel. When the system is active and the engine is stopped, the rev-counter needle goes to the labelled “AUTOSTOP” position to signal readiness for automatic start. The Start/Stop System uses an enhanced generator, starter, and a specific battery.

Transmissions

All Opel Insignia transmissions are 6-speed. The automatic transmissions feature ActiveSelect® for sequential shifting. The 6-speed manual transmissions are optimized for reduced friction and shift precisions. In fact the optimal architecture and precision of all of the transmissions mean that driving is more relaxed, more economical and more enjoyable.
