The Opel Insignia redefines confidence on the road. Wrap around airbags, advanced protective structure design, advanced passive safety features and innovative driver assistance systems all combine to provide perfect peace of mind.

The Opel Insignia is not only equipped with state-of-the-art active safety systems, but also protects its occupants with exemplary passive safety technology. High tensile steels, rigidity, deformability, strategically placed crash boxes and impact load paths all work together to ensure that the new Opel Insignia offers one of the strongest safety structures on the market. Inside it the front airbags are dual powered to avoid injuries caused by too rapid inflation, and the passenger airbag can be switch deactivated. The side airbags guard against side impact and intrusion. In addition to the full-length curtain airbags, rear side airbags are also available.
This attention to detail and all-round protection has earned the Insignia the respected NCAP 5-star rating, the highest European recognition of passive safety.
Further Insignia passive safety features include:

Night driving has always had the potential to generate stress. Opel Insignia’s advanced AFL system automatically selects from nine different light functions each designed to provide optimum illumination in each driving situation without dazzling other drivers.
The result: less stress, more safety.

The Opel Eye in Opel Insignia is a specialized camera which reads and remembers speed limit and “no overtaking” signs. The system displays the current sign in the instrument panel. It also gives the driver advanced warning of unintentional departure from traffic lanes.
Traffic Sign Assistant: mounted behind the interior rear-view mirror, the wide-angle front camera recognizes speed restriction signs and then indicates them in the central display. The Traffic Sign Assistant reads standard sized round speed limit and “no overtaking” signs and also signals the end of the restrictions. It is active from 14 km/h up to 200 km/h (daytime) and 150 km/h (at night) respectively. Unlike navigation systems with stored speed restrictions, the system works in real time so it is always current.
Lane Departure Warning: as of 60 km/h the camera also recognizes if the vehicle unintentionally crosses a traffic line without the driver indicating. It then sounds an audible warning and activates a warning light in the revolution counter. This also helps to counter fatigue and temporary loss of concentration.
